Will your carpet and underlay work over underfloor heating

Underfloor heating only warms the room if heat can pass up through the floor covering. A carpet plus its underlay together must stay below a combined TOG limit or the system fights the insulation above it. Pick your underlay, or a carpet-and-underlay pair, and get the combined TOG, the pass or fail verdict against the Underfloor Heating Manufacturers Association rule, and the low-TOG underlay to buy instead.

TOG values are compiled from published Cormar, Interfloor (Duralay and Tredaire) and Ball & Young datasheets, and the combined-TOG rule and 2.5 TOG limit from the Underfloor Heating Manufacturers Association (UHMA) guidance.

TOG figures are quoted from manufacturer datasheets and the UHMA guidance, cited on each page. The combined-TOG rule is a suitability guideline, not a guarantee. Confirm the final combination and flow temperature with your underfloor heating installer before ordering, because a floor that runs too cool wastes energy and one that runs too hot to compensate can damage some coverings.
